Here are a couple of new label designs that are being finished up. I am talking to Gurian about having these laser engraved into wood veneers.

It sounds like they could also do these with Marquetry, but I think that might be over the top (not to mention expensive).

Let me know what you think.




I don't live in the mountains, but I wanted an image that kind of captured the clean purity of where the guitars originate from. I thought a mountain scene kind of said that.





No, I don't live on a farm either (grew up in the country though)... I wanted this label to be more of the sprit of Ohio. If you have ever been here you will know one of the main things we have in abundance is farms. I thought this was a classic scene said something about where the guitars are coming from.

whilst the second is certainly more ohioish it isn't very columbusish, if there is such a word. mention columbus and i automatically think of osu and the old horseshoe. not very appropriate for a lable though.

OUTSTANDING brock. What program did you use to make these? I like the top one best but you could change the mountains into rolling hills like are visible on 33 south (towards Lancaster) as you leave Columbus.

Can I have the one that you don't use?

I showed these to Mary and she said the second one looks very "Midwest" so that is a good thing too.

I grew up in Southeastern Ohio. If you made those mountains look more like the Appalachians than the Rockies, I think you'd capture what you're looking for there.

A silhouette of a Buckeye tree might be cool as well. Of course you might need to label the tree on the label so people know what it is, but that might work anyway.

These look great. I'm with Tim where you could soften the mountains to look more hill-like and you'd be right on. I happen to know an ex-graphic designer that owes you a favor if you need help.

I grew up in Ohio so the 2nd one reminds me of all the farmlands and barns we used to play in as kids. But the 1st one just looks a little better I think. The wood veneers idea sounds cool,I think I'd check into that.

Thanks for the comments. I didn't design these (just to be clear -- I contracted a designer to do it).

Your comments are interesting on the first label. When I first thought about that theme, I was thinking about where the TREES came from, not where I was geographically, but now that you mention that... it makes total sense.

And you are right, perhaps the second one is a little esoteric unless you have ever been to Columbus. I live in suburbia central now, and I kid you not, if I drive 5 minutes north or west I am back into farm country. Columbus is one of the only cities I know where you can have a working farm right in the middle of the city proper. It is an odd (but cool) thing.

Brock, I think the first one is better. The guitar is made from wood not wheat or potatoes, so I think it has more relevance to someone from outside the area. OK that's the one I prefer.

However, I have to say though that I would never put a label, even a wooden one, in an instrument, just stamp the neck block a la Martin. Labels in guitars are one of my pet hates, I think that a piece of (even well designed) paper or wood stuck inside a fine instrument does absolutely nothing for it's appearance and ruins the clean look of the insides, detracting from the fine workmanship. I'd make it a condition of contract if I ever bought a custom guitar that no label of any sort was put inside it. Stamp the neck block and put your logo on the head plate. Just my opinion.

I don't know. I think Gurian sells them with an option of have adhesive already applied to the back, then you just peel and stick them. My guess is that this is some kind of high tech double sided tape, but I am not really sure.

If they don't come with adhesive applied I will have to do a little experimenting. I am thinking perhaps CA.

Put my vote down for the first label too. I think that one adds a nice sutle touch to the guitar without distractinf from the look of the guitar itself. The second one doesn't seem to relate to the guitar and as I have never been to Ohio would just make me wonder why there is a picture of a farm inside the guitar. The third one would be a cool poster but in a guitar would look a bit "Sears and Roebuck"ish. If you know what I mean.

Brock--I'm all for the third one--IF, IF you have a moustache, wear a racing cap, and put electric necks on your accoustics. Do you have any other labels up your sleeve? You know, you could use all of them, maybe on a rotating basis. Or, a different label for each model you build?

I know that could / would get expensive. So I vote for number 1 w/ the aforementioned modifications.

Another vote for number 1. I lived in Colorado for 13 years and it reminds me of the times when the heat was not 100 degrees and the humidity 95%, like it is here.

The third one is pretty good as well, but I don't remember you having a moustache.

Give the third label some extra thought. I believe it tells the real story...you are a guitar builder(Luthier). That's what the man in the label is doing...building a guitar.
They are all nice!!
No. 3 is my choice.

Depends on your market I guess. From a foreigner’s perspective the first one looks more sophisticated, less so for the second one, and #3 is a little too Geppetto for me.
